Grouping: Did not test grouping but there were no keyholes at 30 meters. I would also like to try a flat bottom soft point round in place of the FMJ I used.ĪR57 16" barrel standard spring and buffer I think I can improve on this with a magnum primer to see if I can get more even burning of the powder and, hopefully slightly faster velocities. 4.5 Gr leaves a barrel plug.ĥ.5 is the most consistent load with an average 1008Fps and a high of 1022 and a low of 988. I tested 5 different weights from 6.5Gr down to 4.5 Gr in a AR57 with 16" barrel. They will tell you that it was made for that very purpose. Anecdotally, it maybe sounds a bit louder to my ear than other powders I've tried, but I don't have a meter so I can't definitely confirm that.Īnyway, if you've been as frustrated as me with your subsonic 300 blackout loads, give Accurate 5744 a try. Before anyone starts anything about low charges and detonation or flash over you should call Accurate and ask them if 5744 is position sensitive or dangerous for reduced loads. It's hard to quantify, but A5744 produces significantly less - I barely notice it while shooting: video. I settled on CFE-BLK for a while and my biggest gripe was the thick cloud of white smoke with each shot. The last benefit that I've noticed is the lack of smoke. I'm pretty pleased with ~1 MOA with subs and 2-3 MOA with cheap plated bullets is about as good as I could hope for. Accuracy has been okay too: I shot these groups this morning out of a Ruger American Ranch. ![]() I've been able to get single digit SD's with a variety of bullets, for example: Nosler 175 gr RDF, and Berry's 220 gr plated RN. This powder is interesting because it's an extruded stick powder, whereas most other commonly used 300 sub powders are ball. I get single digit SD's from my 308 loads with standard case-prep and hand-weighing charges, but the same procedures gave me SD's in the 20s, 30s, and even higher in some cases with 300 blackout.Įnter Accurate 5744. They're either super temperature sensitive, super smokey, or produce wildly inconsistent velocities. I've tried A1680, Lil' Gun, CFE-BLK, and a few others but have ended up being disappointed with each one. I've been shooting 300 blackout on and off for around 10 years and I've always felt that reloading this cartridge has been a challenge, especially for subsonic rounds.
